Warning: Petya Ransomware attacks
Cyber criminals have launched another mass cyber attack. This ransomware goes by the name Petya ransomware or Petrwrap which is a highly advanced ransomware that as well as encrypting data also encrypts the Master Table File which stops the computer/server from booting correctly.
Similar to WannaCry this strain is also demanding $300 in Bitcoins for data to be decrypted but as with all ransomware, there’s no guarantee that the criminals will provide the key necessary to decrypt the data. The message displayed on the screen is “If you see this text, then your files are no longer accessible because they are encrypted. Perhaps you are busy looking for a way to recover your files, but don’t waste your time. Nobody can recover your files without our decryption service.”
The message to you and your staff is “think before you click”.
