The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has announced that it is launching a General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) helpline for small businesses.
The GDPR laws are designed to create greater transparency around how companies collect and use personal information, and make businesses more accountable to consumers. The regulation becomes enforceable from 25 May 2018.
The fines for non-compliance are significant so all businesses must take note.
One of the key requirements of the updated data protection legislation is that personal data is held securely. This is a significant challenge for businesses due to the rising incidence of cyber crime and increasing sophistication of attacks.
The ICO helpline will be available from 1 November 2017 and will be based around the existing public helpline: 0303 123 1113.
